Prof. dr. med. Michael Drosner shares best practice with fellow doctors on treatment of lentigines, striae and acne
Prof. dr. med. Michael Drosner often gets questions after his presentations on Ellipse treatments at international congresses. Below Dr. Drosner kindly shares his communications with a Spanish doctor, as this may be of interest to all Ellipse users:
Dr. E. B: I am very happy now with the results we are getting in treatment of telangiectasias, PWS and ulcerated hemangiomas, following your parameters and recommendations. In our clinic, we would like now to use IPL for treatment of lentigo. We don't have a Q-switch laser and therefore we would like to use our IPL. So far we have not had good success with the PL application. We often get too much crusting and depigmentation. I would really appreciate if you can share your experience with us. What head and parameters do you usually use for lentigos?
Dr. Drosner: The PR applicator with rejuvenation settings (pulse duration 2 times 2,5ms; fluence: at least 8,5J/cm²; end point: slight darkening of the lentigines 2-5 minutes later.
Dr. E. B: How many treatments and how often are usually needed?
Dr. Drosner: Some need 1 treatment, other 5 treatments with 3-4 weeks interval.
Dr. E. B: Also I have not had much success treating striae with 5,5 ms 8 J. Are these the parameters that you use? How many treatments are needed and how often do you repeat treatments?
Dr. Drosner: I do not treat striae with IPL, but I heard that either rejuvenation parameter (as mentioned above) or vascular parameter (after mechanical irritation of the striae to increase the chromophore) might be useful.
Dr. E. B: Lastly, I remember you using IPL for acne treatment with the parameters of the machine, but I don't remember how often you were repeating treatments?
Dr. Drosner: Usually it takes 4-6 repeated treatments with 3-4 weeks intervals.
Dr. E. B: Do you use it only for pustular acne or do you think that it helps in any inflammatory acne? How much does it last the response?
Dr. Drosner: It is effective in all types of acne (also acne inversa, but there Agneta Troilius got better response with hair removal applicator and parameter), especially in inflammatory acne. The response is permanent; at least you see a much milder course after that treatment.
